DRESS TO IMPRESS FOR YOUR INTERVIEW

It’s a well-known fact that if you’re looking for a new job and your resume helps you get your foot in the door, it’s important that at the interview, you look the part. What does that mean? Well, basically it means that when you get the chance to meet with the hiring manager, make sure that you present yourself as the whole package; someone who is a great fit for the organization – from mannerisms and communications to grooming and choice of wear. Even if the workplace you endeavor to join is business-casual on a daily basis, show the interviewer and others you meet that you take the company, the job and yourself seriously.

Be Interview-Ready
As soon as you’ve scheduled your interview, you should be thinking about the ideal attire to wear. For a career in accounting and finance, your choice of clothing should be conservative and professional. Wear a suit in grey or dark blue and a shirt or blouse in white (or a light color). For men who want to add a little personality, wear a tie with a bold color, but don’t wear a novelty tie or one that is ‘loud’ and screams ‘notice me’. For women, jewelry can be fashionable to show off a bit of your style; however, don’t overdo the jewelry, wearing large baubles or too much that you divert the interviewer’s attention from you. And last, make sure your footwear fits well, is business-appropriate and comfortable. Be traditional and tasteful in your choice of socks or stockings (even though it has become acceptable for women to be bare-legged while wearing skirts, your best bet is to wear nylons) for the interview.

Make an Entrance
Keep in mind that from the moment you walk into the company lobby to the time you leave, you are being sized-up. The impression you want to make is one of a potential employee who embodies confidence and professionalism. Before the handshake, your interviewer is already formulating an idea of who you are so it’s imperative that you choose an interview suit or dress that represents your experience.

Keep up Appearances
Once you get the job, don’t become lax in your work style. Continue to dress to impress because it’s a great complement to your experience. Trust us, your efforts will not go unnoticed.
